When you want more energy, how do you get it? Most people don’t have time to lie down for a power nap, and are for more likely to reach for caffeine or an energy-shot, instead. If this sounds familiar, perhaps it is time you realize these drugs only delay and compound your exhaustion. You tend to need them more and more until nothing can really give you the motivation you need.

 

After taking them for so long, your days and nights tend to be spent with an overwhelming feeling of tiredness, coupled with restlessness, poor sleep, or even insomnia. You eat a heavy, processed diet, and imbibe caffeine or other “energizing” supplements daily. Your body is out of balance and screaming for something new. Your exhaustion, coupled with an inability to obtain refreshing sleep, is merely one of your body’s emergency signals.

 

There is a way to break this cycle and get back to strength, vitality, and energy by eating a raw food diet. Raw food is energy food for three reasons: It alkalinizes your body, stocks it with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, and replenishes it with enzymes. Without getting these three important benefits from your daily eating habits, you cannot enjoy the life you deserve. Unfortunately, many of us in North America barely even eat vegetables, let alone raw food. I hope that for you, and many others, this is about to change.

As I’ve already mentioned, the first benefit of raw food comes from making your blood pH more alkaline. What does this mean? It is pretty simple. Your blood pH, like any liquid, is balanced between alkalinity and acidity. In a healthy, energetic body, the blood is alkaline, which allows organs, cells, and the immune system to function optimally, and creates a friendly environment for healthy, disease and parasite-fighting bacteria to flourish. Invading fungi, bacteria, and pests are kept in check, and digestion functions perfectly.

 

When you eat a diet filled with refined sugar and flour, dairy, meat, preservatives, and other processed food, your body becomes acidic. This is difficult for your digestion, your immune system, and organs, like your liver and pancreas. It causes helpful bacteria to die, and harmful invaders to thrive. Your body becomes more susceptible to illness and your ability to properly convert food into energy is highly compromised.

 

To make matters worse, processed foods are not only acidic, they tend to be nutritionally deficient and calorie-dense. Not only do they provide fewer nutritional benefits, but your compromised digestive system is rendered less capable of assimilating the nutrition they do provide. You take in a lot of fat, sugar and salt, and have little in the way of substantial nutrients to show for it. Can you see why you might be feeling a little tired?

 

Tied into all of this is the lack of digestive enzymes in a standard American diet. Enzymes are proteins which speed reactions between cells. They help your body run efficiently, and are present in raw foods to help you digest them faster. You are born with a finite amount, and as they become depleted, your body is forced to pull them from other areas in order to aid in digestion and assimilation of nutrients. This means you age faster and pull energy from your body every time you eat.

A raw food diet creates a balance of nutrition, energy, and healing ingredients in your body every day. By eating raw, you give yourself the best possible chance at optimal health and endless vitality. Cooked and processed foods simply don’t contain the same amount of health-building ingredients. They are often stripped of their most important nutritional elements.

 

Heating a food destroys enzymes, those ultra-important proteins that speed reactions between cells and make your body work efficiently. Going without enzymes is like driving your car with too little oil. It wears on your body, depletes your energy, and ages you faster. The only way to increase the amount of enzymes in your body is to eat food which contains them. This means raw food.

 

Sprouted grains, raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds are enzyme-rich. While they fill your body with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants they also replenish your supply of these age and disease-fighting proteins. When you eat them, you get empty calories and a few water-soluble vitamins, lots of salt, sugar, preservatives, and added colors and flavors. These are not going to help you. All they do is harm you.

So much of the time we eat without really considering what we are munching on; where it comes from, how it is made. It doesn’t help that many packaged foods have a picture of some fruit, vegetable, or grain on the label. It makes it easier for us to fool ourselves that what we are eating is “natural” or healthy. The truth is, a cracker is no more “whole wheat” than cardboard is a “whole tree.”

 

There are a lot of different ingredients which go into many of those foods. Genetically modified corn, wheat, and soy are the major ones, but preservatives, artificial flavors, colors, and scents can also be found. Many of these are not even properly tested or regulated. This means you don’t really know what you are putting into your body or it’s possible affects, and no one else does, either. Of course, food is too important to your health to gamble with.

 

We all know that food is paramount. Without it we die. We get so much sustenance from what we eat. It give us the necessary components for a healthy immune system, energy to think and move throughout our day, and the vital nutrients we need to heal our bodies, breath air and pump blood. So, why do we eat so unconsciously? Shouldn’t it be the opposite? Shouldn’t we be extremely aware of what we are eating and how it can help us?
